The value of silver dollars depends on a great many different factors, such as the year of minting, the condition of the coin, whether the silver dollar was circulated or un-circulated will also have an impact, along with the actually minting site.
From the 1921 Morgan pressing, the value of silver dollars ranges between $15 for circulated coins to anywhere upwards of $35 dollars for the un- circulated ones.
The value of silver dollars minted in Philadelphia is slightly less valuable than the coins issued from Denver or San Francisco. In 1921 alone there were two main silver dollars minted, the more commonplace Morgan dollar which was reprinted in 1921 for the one run after being out of circulation from 1904. The other coin was the PEACE dollar. The value of silver dollars with PEACE stamped on the reverse side can range from $75 dollars to more than $200 for good condition coins.
The Morgan, Peace and Silver Eagle coins are the most common and therefore provide the best value of silver dollars for anybody just starting out their own coin collection. The overall Value of Silver Dollars varies based on among many things the actually quantity of silver contained within the coins. Early coins were approximately 90% silver, however during the 1960 this dropped down to a meagre 40% silver. Current silver dollars minted are made from 100% silver; however these are not circulatory coins due to the value of silver compared to the face value of the coin itself. Another important factor in the true value of silver dollars is the availability of the coins in the general population. The highest value of silver dollars is reserved for three very special mints. The 1893 San Francisco produced coin, which in good condition will sell for as much as a quarter of a million dollars.($250,000) also the 1895 Philadelphia coin is worth $11,000 and that is for a coin in average condition. Of course true value of silver dollars cannot be decided by the market place alone, because it comes down to a personal choice, whether the dollar is being sold from necessity or simply for the high value (particularly in the case of the more expensive rarer coins). They say beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and when it comes to the value of silver dollars, beauty is certainly the monetary value. Nobody can tell you how much to sell you coin for; all they can do is giving an approximation of its face worth. |
